WAVE is proud to have worked with BYD delivering range-extended battery electric transit buses to Long Beach Transit in Long Beach, CA. WAVE’s 50 kW charger was installed adjacent to the Convention Center near Long Beach’s stunning waterfront. The charger serves BYD 40-foot battery electric transit buses on LBT’s free Passport Route.
AVTA is currently deploying multiple WAVE 250 kW chargers. These chargers will be powering BYD K11 and K9 buses in Lancaster and Palmdale. WAVE has completed a full OEM integration with BYD at their Lancaster manufacturing facility, now working together to help Antelope Valley Transit Authority reach their goal of being “100 percent Green by 2018”. The 250 kW chargers will allow AVTA to run their buses for the same number of hours as their diesel counterparts. In the development of this product, WAVE has solidified a product platform with scalability up to a megawatt (MW) to accommodate future applications that are even more demanding.
WAVE has recently begun transitioning its technology to additional markets, including two POLA projects to demonstrate zero-emission range extension technology by integrating wireless charging on electric port vehicles. By partnering with Hyster-Yale Group, the largest forklift manufacturer in the US, WAVE is delivering a high power wireless charger for the first ever demonstration of an all-electric container handler at POLA’s APM Terminal, which is the largest terminal operator at POLA. These wireless chargers will significantly accelerate the adoption of zero emission electric trucks, allowing POLA to meet the new zero emission targets imposed by the State of California.

SALT LAKE CITY, UT, USA – November 14, 2016 – Wireless Advanced Vehicle Electrification (WAVE) announces its state-of-the-art Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) technology is now providing en route charging for electric-powered buses at the Bay Area’s Walnut Creek BART station, along with Gillig, a new OEM partner, and Contra Costa County Transit Agency. The WAVE system uses a charging pad that lies flush with the pavement, is sturdy enough to be run over all day without damage, and wirelessly charges the bus during routine stops. En route charging means less batteries needed, reduced vehicle weight, higher passenger capacity and extended vehicle range.

Sales in WAVE systems have been steadily increasing over the past 3 years, including commercial deployments at Utah Transit Authority, Monterey Salinas Transit, McAllen Metro Transit, and Antelope Valley Transit Authority, with ten buses at Long Beach Transit planned to be in service during the next quarter. Next for delivery are 250kW systems for AVTA in 2017 and additional wireless charging systems in the East Bay to power more Gillig electric buses for CCCTA.
